Today’s young professionals and students are the energy warriors of tomorrow! Did you know that our Young Professionals Committee produces a Global Youth Survey at every WPC Energy Congress, highlighting their unique perspectives on the energy industry? The 2023 survey, which included over 1,800 respondents from 27 countries, reveals attitudes towards the energy transition, career development opportunities and job security. It also looks into the industry's reputation and the challenge of attracting and retaining talent in order to achieve a sustainable energy future. Their aim is to recognize outstanding individuals working in the energy sector across the Middle East who have excelled professionally and personally through their unmatched contributions in the areas of leadership, innovation, talent, research, and outreach. The awards fall into seven categories and nominations are currently open: Academic Achievement - University Student A young woman in university who demonstrates academic excellence and leadership, and is majoring in science and/or engineering in the energy industry. Academic Achievement - University Professor A female academic professional with 10+ years of experience in the Science and/or Engineering department in the energy industry. Rising Star A young professional woman with 3-5 years of experience in the energy industry. She is someone who has been recognized for special achievements within her organisation. Leading with Excellence A professional woman with 5-15 years of experience in energy who has gone above and beyond to demonstrate leadership skills, excellence in corporate performance. Woman of Achievement A professional woman, with a background in Science and/or Engineering with over 15 years of experience in the energy industry. Corporate Male Champion A professional male with 10+ years of experience who has gone above and beyond to develop and support women as professionals and potential leaders. Corporate Excellence An organisation that has excelled at initiatives to encourage, advance, hire, and retain women through inclusive hiring and development practices, as well as developing and implementing innovative D&I programs. Yesterday was a historic day for WPC Energy as a signing ceremony took place in London between the Secretariat and the Kazakh National Committee granting the right for the 26th WPC Energy Congress in 2028 to be held in Astana. The MOU was signed by Pedro Miras Salamanca, President of WPC Energy and Magzum Mirzagaliyev, Chairman of the Kazakh National Committee of WPC Energy and Chairman of the KAZENERGY Association. The 26th Congress is significant as it signals the move from a triennial to biennial cycle. This change forms part of a wider strategic plan, along with the ongoing re-organisation of the London based Secretariat and adoption of a new brand and identity (in 2023) which is designed to strengthen our purpose and position within the global energy industry.
