Joby Aviation has applied for certified use of its eVTOL aircraft in Australia once it receives its type certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Californian company claims it’s the first electric air taxi player to complete the first three stages of the FAA’s type certificate process, and is 37% through the fourth stage. “We've applied to validate our aircraft's FAA type certificate, once received, with Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), leveraging the existing bilateral aviation safety agreement between the two regulators - just as we're doing with the UK's Civil Aviation Authority and Japan's Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB).” Joby’s electric air taxi can carry a pilot and four passengers at a speed of 200mph, and the company says it has completed more than 33,000 miles with a full-scale prototype aircraft. More than 80 cargo bikes took part in London’s annual Cargo Bike Cruise event yesterday to celebrate a 63% increase in cargo bike use across the capital. Campaigners, politicians and over 50 businesses that operate cargo bikes rode past the Houses of Parliament to celebrate the surge and call for support for zero-emission deliveries. “Businesses need the support from local and national governments to invest confidently in cargo bikes as a solution in the transition to clean transport,” Fully Charged Co-Founder and Head of B2B Dan Parsons told Zag Daily. “A shift to net-zero economies will only be achieved through a holistic approach that uses electric vehicles, cargo bikes and more localised economies. Electric cargo bikes have developed hugely over the last decade, now with a vast range of capable solutions across all sectors – leisure, commuting, family, and business.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/enctApj6

A new report tracking the growth of shared micromobility across North America has found that ridership hit a record high in 2023 with at least 172 million trips. This is the North American Bikeshare & Scootershare Association's fifth annual ‘state of the industry report’. Across 421 cities in North America, 87.4 million trips (51%) were taken on docked bikes, 15 million (9%) were on dockless bikes and 69.8 million (40%) were on e-scooters. “The NABSA Shared Micromobility State of the Industry Report demonstrates, year-over-year, the important role and impact that shared micromobility is making in communities across North America, ridership continues to reach all-time highs, yet it remains largely underfunded with public dollars,” Sam Herr, Executive Director of NABSA, told Zag Daily. BeTRITON has raised €80,000 for its electric amphibious camper-trike in its first equity crowdfunding campaign. “There isn’t a product on the market that combines these three functions: a tiny camper, electric boat and electric bicycle. There is a gap between expensive yachts and small inflatable boats,” BeTriton CEO Aigars Lauzis told Zag Daily. “We offer a product that doesn’t require any licences, doesn’t burn anything, and doesn’t require marina fees to be paid. No additional vehicles are needed to move this around, and no towing is needed either. It’s a more sustainable way to travel both over land and water.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/e9Mgftbp

Zag Daily is proud to announce that we have partnered with global mobility giant Bolt to run an exclusive event in London on 03 October. The event will address one central question – what is the sweet spot for micromobility regulation in Europe? Micromobility has grown rapidly across the region becoming increasingly integrated with public transport networks and creating attractive alternatives to car use. However, the regulatory picture is still far from clear. Some European cities run open markets, some run authorisation systems with flexible caps and others have formal tender processes. A team of experts will seek to carve out what is the right regulatory balance for long-term consumer adoption of e-scooters and e-bikes. “Shared scooters and e-bikes are now playing a key role in wider transport networks across Europe, but we believe that to drive continued mode shift for a relatively ‘new’ mode of transport it’s important to focus on affordability for consumers,” said Bolt’s Director of Public Policy and Licensing Haya Verwoord Douidri. “We look forward to discussing how regulation can best achieve this with some of the leading figures in our industry.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eNt-qtXJ

Amazon is investing £300 million to electrify and decarbonise its UK transportation network over the coming years. The investment aims to promote innovation in the logistics industry and will encourage the development of public charging infrastructure and innovations like micromobility hubs. John Boumphrey, Amazon UK Country Manager, told Zag Daily: “We’re making major investments to transform our transportation network right across the UK. By working with our delivery partners we’re now deploying electric delivery vehicles, electric HGVs, and electric-cargo bikes, taking significant strides toward minimising our environmental impact and helping to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eukfjSVh

umob has partnered with Adyen to launch international in-app payment methods for booking shared mobility services. This means a customer can use umob’s single platform to plan, book, and pay for shared mobility services across borders rather than needing to use several different local or national apps. “People are willing to use shared transport services but the way they currently are able to do so is not convenient enough to make it the future,” umob CEO Bibi Jorissen told Zag Daily. “Eliminating setting up different payment methods in different apps enhances ease of use and lowers barriers to entry. We make sure the customer can sign up free of charge and make use of the services for the same prices as the operator’s.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eqKQ4BNE

Zag is proud to announce the second round of speakers for Micromobility UK 2024 on 18th September, hosted by WMG, University of Warwick. “Micromobility UK is a must-attend event for anyone involved in the sector, and one of my favourite conferences,” TRL Head of New Mobility George Beard told Zag Daily. “There is so much potential to harness micromobility to deliver a better transport system for all; better in terms of lower impact, more sustainable, safer, and more inclusive. I look forward to discussing TRL’s work on micromobility regulations and the urgent need for regulatory reform to unlock the market in the UK. This event is vital for bringing together public and private sector stakeholders to tackle this, and other challenges, facing the micromobility industry.” Richard Hill, Head of Mobility and Logistics at NatWest, said: “The development of a thriving micromobility industry is critical to the achievement of the UK net zero ambitions and competitiveness in the transport sector. “NatWest recognises WMG as a leading supporter of the emerging UK micromobility industry and we’re delighted to help build on the success of previous events, bringing together key stakeholders in a unique environment.” Register to attend here: https://lnkd.in/eWhNJJ2n
