    From the outset, we (as a group of academics) worked with communities on real Urban design projects. In the studio, we were encouraged to experiment and develop our own ideas with expert support from our tutors. The main focus was on how to manage urban design projects, how to write a brief and how to evaluate it. In the studio, we were encouraged to experiment and develop our own ideas with expert support from our tutors. The main focus was on how to manage urban design projects, how to write a brief and how to evaluate it. Additionally, the experience has dramatically sharpened my communication skills in terms of presenting my ideas, visually (using freehand and computer aided design software, such as AutoCAD, 3Ds Max, sketchup, Indesgn, Illustrator and Photoshop) and verbally, for different audiences.
    Today, I understand urban design in its social, political and economic contexts.

    Activities and Societies: Whilst at university, I took pride that I joined several altruistic activities where I contributed in three voluntary camps sponsored by The Student Union at the university. These activities were intended to promote goodness and improve the quality of life in semi-forgotten districts all over Syrian provincials.

    During my undergraduate study, I have gained a better understanding of the arts and humanities, as well as a basic technical understanding of structures and construction. Skills in communication, both visual and verbal, were essential to be developed. While knowledge and skills were developed, design was ultimately a process of critical thinking, analysis, and creative activity through a set of design projects over the whole period of studying in the school of architecture.
