About

I am an experienced safety and training manager, with experience overseeing health and safety and planning internal and external accredited training for the construction plant hire industry. I have managed an CPCS accredited test centre, SQA, NOCN and ProQual accredited NVQ centres as well as assessing and internal quality assuring NVQs in Supervisory/MGMT roles, trades, plant operations and controlling lifting operations. I am a CPCS Tester, and carry out testing on a regular basis at various centres across the country. I also work as the health and safety advisor for several businesses in various aspects of the construction industry such as manufacturing, plant operations, groundworks, carpentry amongst others. I work with them by leading in policy writing and implementation, as well as advising on legal requirements that the company must meet. I act as Senior Site Management for several of my clients, assisting them in planning and implementing safe, efficient and profitable sites by engaging with their clients, site management and supervisory teams as well as working hands on with the site teams to ensure that all aspects of the work are planned carefully and executed in a professional manner. I am always keen to learn and expand my skills, knowledge and experience through training and on the job CPD.

I used my experience of managing a business along with research skills to set up the company financial systems including tax, wages, accounting. I also completed all required registrations and set up systems and processes to keep the company legally compliant. I initially managed the financial and compliance side whilst my business partner focussed on sales and product development. I also completed photography for some of the earlier projects. As the business grew, a team of sub-contractors used regularly was built to allow my business partner to manage the business in my absence whilst I advised as a consultant to ensure legal compliance and financial systems were adhered to. The business is now in it's second financial year and is trading strongly, in line with initial forecasts for sales and margins.

I had full responsibility and accountability for the region, including liaising with national clients at Area Manager level, promoting the area through attendance at client area meetings, dealing with client enquiries and complaints, business development through initial meetings with new clients, and managing the KPIs of the team to meet company budget for SFA profile and profit. I planned and implemented plans to ensure the team were fully trained and supported to meet their targets, allowing the team to grow and quality standards to increase. Working closely alongside my IQA, I managed the team to the best performing region in many of the company KPIs, including increasing timely success rates by 32% within a year, and reducing inner London travel costs by 10% whilst increasing monitoring capabilities of the team. In early 2014 I took over an additional region, and managed 10 assessors, 2 IQAs and 3 administrators covering East Anglia and London. Following financial difficulties experienced by the company after the loss of 2 major national clients, Charnwood was purchased by North Nottinghamshire College, leading to the southern regions being reduced in size from 36 to 4 staff. The company chose to manage these staff using managers from head office, resulting in me being selected for redundancy.

I moved to the Team Leader role after being asked to apply following my high performance in the Training Officer role to support the expanding South East and London team’s growth starting in November 2012. My area covered any sites within the M25 area, supporting and managing a team of 5 Training Officers, many new to the company, to build and maintain their caseload above 40 learners. I worked under the supervision of the South East area manager, reporting to him whilst being given the authority to manage the region as I deemed necessary. I also had a small caseload of my own to continue training and supporting whilst helping the London team to grow. I balanced my time between my caseload of 20 learners, and supporting the London team to achieve their completion and start targets, as well as managing their performance to ensure they achieved the KPIs set by the company through monthly 1-2-1’s. I was responsible for recruiting new staff to ensure the team has capacity to achieve our portion of the SFA profile for Charnwood, including interviewing, selecting and support new Training Officers on their induction.

I began working with Charnwood Training Group as one of three assessors employed to cover the South of England. This involved carefully managing a caseload of up to 40 learners across a huge geographical area, from Kent and Essex, across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and as far as Avon, Somerset and even venturing into Wales on occasions. This was a challenging task, however I achieved excellent timely and overall completion rates even under these tough working conditions. As the company…

This was a challenging task, however I achieved excellent timely and overall completion rates even under these tough working conditions. As the company grew, I was able to focus on a smaller region, however my caseload ballooned to around the 80 learner mark for a substantial time. I continued to carefully plan and manage my diary to ensure the learners were seen as often as possible and received adequate quality training and assessments to achieve their qualifications in a timely fashion. I was part of a team of 18 assessors in the South East area, and towards the end of my time as an assessor before I was promoted I was relied upon to maintain my caseload, and also to support the rest of the team, including one to one assistance, devising and delivering training in meetings to the team, and remote support via email and phone as and when required.

I took over just at the start of the financial crisis and maintained high standards throughout my time there to ensure the business remained profitable and popular. I managed the food and drinks stocks to within required tolerances as well as recruiting and training all staff required for the business. I encouraged the staff to complete additional NVQ and Apprenticeship training as part of their development, and trained two assistant managers and oneteam leader to assist in the day to day running of the business. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working at The Mint and interacting with all of the different people you encounter in a cosy but busy local pub environment.

  • Lyme Bay Auctions

Lyme Bay Auctions approached the team and asked us to put together a low budget professional website which they could edit and have control over.

The resulting website is simple in it’s design, based around Lyme Bay Auctions own adverts and marketing, with an easy to edit front page text section and a slide which is looked after and updated by themselves. It’s also responsive and clear in it’s approach, meeting the requirements made by the Lyme Bay Auctions team.
