The topic of my PhD is the development of a novel automated material placement machine designed primarily for the aerospace industry. This placement machine can lay-up wide UD tapes (both prepreg and dry fabric) along curved paths, while maintaining the high levels of productivity required by the industry, something which was not possible before. Steered paths allow both for increased shape complexity and structurally optimised designs, drastically expanding the design space for composites. Upon further development, this technology could greatly influence the way we design and fabricate composite parts, and bring us one step closer to the next generation of ultra-efficient aircraft.

The last 2 years of my studies, i have been a member of the systems Bioengineering lab at NTUA. I have been involved in many projects concerning the study of articular cartilage (FEA / Biomechanics), one of which was accepted for a poster presentation at the European Society of Biomechanics Congress. My diploma thesis was also a project of the lab and it involved protein - protein interaction networks (Graph theory / Linear Programming).
