How can your personal network help you source startup talent?
A projects team makes or breaks startups. It is more important than the product or offering itself. However, one size fits all rarely works for a startup as there are many things to consider - the project's finances being a key one. It not only impacts if it can hire a recruiter to pay their fee, but also the actual pay on offer. If sub-market rates, then how do you find talent that will buy in to the product vision to accept a salary cut. Another tool that can benefit a startup here is thinking about alternative benefits to offer - most valuable being, offering equity but cautiously. Another key thing is the role and seniority of that role. Based on the above, you may need to find explore non standard avenues as well.

You're looking to make a career in strategy. What are the most important tools you need?
Being able to help clients identify and solve problems is at the heart of strategy consulting for me. The suggested options are a reasonable, but not only, criteria that you require to be successful. For the purposes of this article, I would like to focus on one key aspect that's missing. Problem framing assumes the ability to be able to identify problems - noting that often clients may have a belief that's at odds with the actual root of the issue. This skill or ability is crucial, and while can come naturally to some; it can be acquired through attention to detail, passion to understand your client as well as their business first and having exposure to a significant amount of business problems.

What are the best startup development career paths for new graduates?
What the options miss out are the commercial and/or management roles - including the C-suite titles like CEO, CFO, CMO, CSO (and the roles that go under these departments). The roles available in a particular startup would heavily rely on the startup, it's industry, the product / offering, it's growth stage (pre rev, growth, series X, etc) and several other factors. So look for roles where your preferences and what you genuinely enjoy (that is items you are ambitious about and not just passionate) "crossover" with your expertise, natural talent and/or skillet. The beauty of startups is - once you have an in, and you can create value for it, you can pave the path for your future journey very easily.
