For years, I avoided LinkedIn. Sure, I set up my profile back in the day where it was just a platform for sharing your online CV and I added a few connections here and there.
Over time, the platform evolved but I didn’t. Other people started writing long articles and sounded awfully clever. I thought I’d get laughed off LinkedIn if I tried to do the same.
Meanwhile my career in tech PR lasted 18 years but couldn’t quite withstand two children and the logistics of one at nursery and one at school.
I took my comms skills and adapted them to social media and a more flexible work-life via a course with Digital Mums.
And LinkedIn became my platform of choice.
Alongside Phil Szomszor, I co-founded Brightside in January 2020. Instead of pumping out dry content from brand channels (yawn), we help business leaders, sales teams, comms departments and agencies to help brands tell a more interesting story through their biggest assets: their people.
I know from experience that it's not always easy to put yourself out there on social media. So my superpower is giving people the confidence to do so.

How can you find the best copywriting tools and resources?
I'd add a timer - any old one will do, such as the timer on your phone. Set it for 20 minutes and just start writing. Your copy won't be right the first time but you'll produce something that you can edit and refine. And you'd be surprised at how much you can get down in 20 minutes.
