What do you do if logical reasoning alone is not enough to manage risks effectively?
One tool I found particularly effective is to use a Bayesian framework, setting the priors to uniform distributions. This will scan the entire parameter space of your scenario generator model, producing a suite of low-likelihood, yet plausible extreme scenarios.

How can you incorporate expert opinions into your algorithm evaluation?
In financial modeling, we've been talking about this for a while now. Basically, there are frameworks out there, such as model risk, that give us some pretty good pointers on how to handle tweaks we make to models after they're built—especially when these adjustments are based on what the experts think. Now, if we're bringing expert opinions into the algorithm mix, we need to have ways to question and refine those opinions periodically. An efficient way to do that? Add judgment guidelines right into your model risk policies. A common use case is the selection of features in credit risk scorecards. My advice in such high-risk cases is to use tools like decision trees. They're a clear-cut way to challenge what the experts are saying.
