After 24 years in mining/tunnelling and the rest in construction as a site manager and commissioning manager I’ve retired now due to multiple health problems.
Type 2 diabetes, DVT, high blood pressure, intend tremors in both hands, severe arthritis, I’ve just had my left shoulder joint replaced, in every joint, including wrists and fingers, 7 herniated discs and a trapped nerve in my lower back and finally 2 heart attacks.
I think that’s enough for any one to retire on.
As much as I would love to work on site again I don’t think I could get insurance to cover me.
Apart from that getting a job, especially one away from home would be the death of me as my wife has told me she would kill me if I took another job!
She loves me really.
So because ageism is rife in the construction industry, unless someone knows you, 50 yrs of experience in mining and construction is lost to the industry.
Thanks to Fairport Engineering and their senior management for believing in me for many years.
