You're thinking of becoming a life coach. What are the first steps you should take?
Cultivate your own authentic perspective on life and coaching. Answer these questions: - what does the world need? - what’s wrong right now? - how are current solutions not addressing the problems you solve? - what is your specific way of tackling these problems? - how will the world be better as a result? Build a habit of sharing your story, the stories of your clients and the stories of others in your field whom you respect. Cultivate conversation. Build awareness of who you are and why you care. Demonstrate how you help. Make it easy for clients to experience you and buy from you.

You're thinking of becoming a life coach. What are the first steps you should take?
Ultimately I believe you need to be coached before you start coaching. And if possible some therapy. To be truly effective you need to make sure your biases and beliefs don’t get in the way of your clients’ growth. And this only comes from awareness. As my wonderful friend Lana Jelenjev has taught me “settled bodies settle bodies.” When people are going through transition, and even sometimes chaos, they need a calming influence; a calm borne from their own self-work, not from a set of skills learned from a course. Coaching done well is an embodied practise. It requires empathy as well as advice. Being able to hear people well and not project your own stories is essential. Radical self-enquiry is the first step to effective coaching.

What are the best practices for handling difficult conversations with startup founders?
Do your own work. The biggest issue with difficult conversations is you getting in the way of a resolution. What biases, fears and assumptions do you hold? Are you aware of your own issues with having difficult conversations. You’ll only get a helpful resolution if you have a conversation that feels connected. But it’s hard to connect with others well if you’re not connected to yourself. Self-knowledge and self-awareness are key.

Activities and Societies: Nam Pai Chuan Kung Fu club
This was a great time that included trips to Berlin, Bologna, Pisa, Helsinki and winning the Cavendish Physics Medal for my research. Believe it or not but I made atoms bounce using video tape.

Activities and Societies: Nam Pai Chuan Kung Fu club
Loved my time at Sussex, especially my year abroad studying in Bologna. Doing an oral exam about the Standard Model of particle physics was definitely an experience. Having a post night club 5am doughnut and coffee on the sea front in Riccione was more enjoyable.
