The Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, is a British teaching qualification for university lecturers and similar professionals. The PGCHE is designed to equip holders with the skills needed to provide high-quality teaching and learning.

  • -

This qualification provided training in teaching and pedagogy in the Higher Education context. Successful completion also allowed me to apply to be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

  • -

In addition to modules in Applied Linguistics, This MA included an embedded Advanced Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages (TESOL). Together with the observed teaching which formed part of my PGCE, Cert Ed and PGCHE, this has allowed me to gain TEFLQ. I completed the degree part-time whilst working full-time.

  • -

This qualification afforded me Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) as a teacher of French and German. It also contributed to my TEFLQ status.

  • -

This was a joint honours programme focusing on the language, culture and literature of France and Germany. In the first year of my undergraduate study I also studied Italian as an option. During my degree I undertook a year of teaching in a German School for an academic year. I also studied for a month at L'Institut de Touraine in Tours.

  • -

I studied Mandarin intensively at Northwest University in Xi’an before embarking on my role as teacher trainer in North Eastern China.

  • -

During my secondary education, I took 8 GCSEs and 4 A'Levels

This leads on to an explanation of the need for EAP Assessment Literacy. It is clarified, through reference to the research questions, that this study has been undertaken in order to investigate the extent to which the views of EAP teachers, on the topic of EAP testing and assessment, reflect language testing research and practices which comprise Assessment Literacy.
