Keep your resume updated all of the time. Keep it lean as you add more experience or skills. You never know when or how quickly you might need it but in updating it regularly, it can be the equivalent to a skills audit also.

What do you do if your IT skills and experience aren't enough to land a new job after a layoff?
Listen to everyone around you. Not only those with more experience or seniority will have the answers. Sometimes institutionalisation can manifest as blinkered to new ideas. Listen to everyone around you regardless of age, seniority or even experience. Take short courses offered by platforms such as linked in just to keep building your knowledge base. Listen to podcasts and audiobooks during journeys etc to keep building your knowledge through others, either the fairly dry instructional / tutorial manuals or the more experience focussed and slightly easier listening biographies and stories.. “Ghosts in the Wire” is my go to as are many others.
