A year-long, corporate-sponsored, comprehensive group project adeptly combining academic significance with practical releveance.

Deliverables:
- Interpretation of an initial brief and development and negotiation of a project proposal that is acceptable to both sponsor and School
- A clear definition of the problems/issues for investigation, aims and terms of reference
- A research plan and timetable of work and a well-founded project design
- A wide-ranging and substantial literature search and exploration of the relevant ‘body of knowledge’
- Fieldwork to gather relevant data and explore secondary sources
- An analysis and interpretation of the data together with a discussion of the findings in the light of the literature
- Conclusions or recommendations that seek to remedy or resolve the issues/problems raised by the investigation
- Some perceptive reflections on the process of carrying out a project investigation, and an indication of what you think you have learned from the whole experience

Professional value of the project:
- Helped develop skills in designing and carrying out a field-based ‘action research’ investigation
- Gave a chance to handle complex data sets, and to work with messy real life problems
- Allowed existing theories and concepts to be applied and critically evaluated
- Integrated different elements of the degree programme, and helped develop a view of a business issue from a variety of perspectives
- Provided the opportunity to practice and develop personal skills in diagnosing, analysing, interpreting and writing up a large-scale project
