Don’t skimp on your effort in the OKR process. It’s a great tool and process to set priorities and by definition, what is not a priority. Set no more than four objectives in a year that are juicy but critically only PMM are best served to deliver. Set no more than four deliverables for each. Communicate, communicate, communicate. Even though at some point you’ll say no to people, they will have to trust and respect your focus and rigour on delivering what is important. Trust comes from delivery and consistency.

Stay close to the numbers and market data. I produce PMM data reports on my newsletter on LinkedIn as do the PMA. Knowing the data behind the changes in the function is a superpower as they are not widely known, especially by organisations.

Giving and receiving feedback is gift. Ensure it's constructive and any negativity is focused on the idea not the person. Processes like the 360 feedback loop can help.

Nailing your OKRs to 4 crisp tight objectives that only PMM can do well is a great start. Once decided, assign no more than 3-4 deliverables per objective. Ensure you communicate your objectives and associated deliverables at every opportunity. They are your priorities, and by definition, what are not priorities. Going though this exercise rigorously will help align your goals.

Half your title is 'product,' and in a B2B/Startup environment, you will be very close to the product team. Your goal is to help shape the roadmap for the relevant audience and market conditions. It's crucial for PMMs to fully understand and embrace the product.
