About

I have 20 years of experience working on human rights and the environment developing strategic campaigns in the climate sphere with strong communications components. I was most recently a Campaign Director at Global Witness and am now an independent consultant supporting organisations to develop and implement strategic and impactful campaigns, investigations and programmes.

I am driven by a committed to protect the rights of the world’s most vulnerable people and the environment they rely on and support grass roots ownership of solutions.

As a Campaign Director and Deputy Director at Global Witness I led 22 staff in 7 teams, including remote workers, carrying out campaigns across 10 countries with a budget of £2 million. I supported the organisations strategic revisioning which placed climate at its heart and oversaw subsequent campaign redesigns in response. I improved the departments digital and physical security and supported pioneering undercover work in South America which led to criminal indictments.

Prior to being a director I conducted investigations, campaigns and advocacy on natural resource governance, conflict and corruption in West Africa and Burma.

Key skills:
Expertise in human rights and the environment, environmental defenders, Liberia and Sierra Leone, and strategic communications. Excellent track record in leadership, management and team building/ in-depth investigations, research, high level advocacy and policy analysis, attracting and managing complex funding. Significant experience working with local civil society and publishing creative communications materials and in litigious environments.

I oversaw 22 staff in 7 teams conducting campaigns across 10 countries with a budget of 2 million. I oversaw the strategic revisioning of the environmental defenders team and Liberia team and initiated the forest team restructure. I led and supported campaigns to carry out impactful investigations in high risk environments that considered the security of staff and local partners, devised campaign strategies that delivered results, produced substantive publications and communications materials that were legally sound and targeted to the right people in the right places. I managed complex funding relationships and maintained funding relationships despite the shifts within the campaign.
