Getting the cultural alignment is key. Those whose cultural preferences are not aligned with the portfolio business culture will struggle. Given the demands of PE, it is also essential to to ensure that the team is progressively comprised of people with the intrinsic motivation, energy and resilience to support value creation over the hold period. This typically means people comfortable with discretionary effort and doing more with less at pace.
