The author uses the Sandwich Shop of Prompting as an analogy to explain how we communicate effectively with AI tools by using clear detailed instructions as to what we want. The idea being that if you go into a sandwich shop and just ask for a sandwich, you'll get one, but it might not be your ideal choice, on the other hand, if you give the person behind the counter precise instructions (for example, chicken thigh with gouda cheese and finely shredded red cabbage, and sriracha mayonnaise on white sourdough bread) you'll get exactly what you want, and that's how prompting works.

The book begins with an introduction to prompt engineering and a look at other essential concepts that we ideally need to understand when using in AI. It then discusses various methods, ideas, and tips, as well as reflecting on the ethics and other challenges of prompting.
