My experience with the Rotary Club has been fantastic, introducing me to lots of people within my local community and providing opportunities to give back in various ways. Most recently, this has involved taking part in their annual Christmas float, knocking on doors to spread word of the Rotary Club's work and collect donations vital to their cause.

For one week, I lived off the same rations as a Syrian Refugee in Jordan as part of the 'Ration Challenge' which was a humbling and eye opening experience. Sharing my experience across social media platforms, I was able to fundraise £339.20 for Concern Worldwide, surpassing my goal of £314 which can provide 2 refugees with food, medicine and education for a year. I plan to do this annually to continue supporting refugees across the world.

I continued to fundraise for the charity further into my time at University after signing up to the Kilimanjaro expedition. Fundraising for over a year in advance to the challenge through various initiatives such as presenting about the cause to my local Rotary Club, receiving a £250 donation, I reached a final grand total of £3,018.49. As part of the Loughborough team, our fundraising went towards a local project in Moshi, Tanzania at an orphanage called 'Amani' which we were fortunate enough to visit and gain an insight into how our fundraising would make a difference. I successfully reached the summit of Kilimanjaro in September 2018 which was also a huge accomplishment personally.

In order to complete the Bronze Award, I carried out 10 months of volunteering for the Trussell Trust, exceeding the 6 month requirement; 3 months of tennis lessons to keep physical, simultaneously teaching myself a new sport and 3 months of cooking under the assessment of a Food Technology teacher as a means of developing a new skill.

The expedition itself, consisting of 2 days and 1 night, taught me several skills such as map reading, leadership and independent thinking. Particularly,…

The expedition itself, consisting of 2 days and 1 night, taught me several skills such as map reading, leadership and independent thinking. Particularly, whilst being pushed out of my comfort zone, the ability to work effectively as a team without the help of technology became an important skill I used throughout the trek.
