About

I have a passion for regulation, and particularly the relationship between financial regulation, innovation and technology. I am deeply interested in regulatory change and how it affects regulated firms and how technology can be used to improve compliance. I believe we are approaching an era where regulators can no longer afford to be technology neutral and must start demanding more of regulated firms when it comes to the technology they are using to meet regulatory expectations.

For the last five years, I was a Co-Founder of RegTech Associates, where I lead research and client delivery activities. RegTech Associates is a research company, founded in 2017, specialising in deep industry insights about the RegTech and RiskTech markets.

My expertise spans a number of regulatory problem areas, from financial crime through to regulatory reporting, with much of this knowledge gained from over 20 years of experience working in the financial services industry on a variety of regulatory change programmes. As a result, I am a sought after public speaker on topics such as the use of technology in fighting financial crime, the RegTech market and trends, regulatory changes and the use of AI in financial services.

As well as being a practitioner, I also have an academic background in regulation, In 2017, I was awarded a PhD from the London School of Economics. My systematic research explored the challenges faced by banks in dealing with the volume and speed of regulatory change following the 2008 financial crisis. I also hold an MSc in Regulation from the London School of Economics, and I have experience in teaching at both undergraduate and masters levels.

My early career was spent embracing the world of change and programme management on large, complex projects such as the introduction of the Euro, Y2K and from 2003 onwards, implementing regulatory change across a number of global financial institutions.
