My time as Team GB's Director of Sport was incredibly special. From 2006 I was able to work with exceptional coaches and athletes at the Beijing and Vancouver Games with the culmination being the wonderful London Games in 2012.

One of our greatest acheivements was in how we were able to unify 26 different sports, 542 athletes, 450 coaches and 300 volunteers and operate as One Team GB to a level we'd never achieved before.

In 1997 I accepted the role of England Rugby's first full time, professional head coach. England were 6th in the world at the time. I was determined to challenge the traditional school of thought and establish an environment which would not just be the envy of our competitors but of all teams in elite sport - and business.

Driving this ambition was my belief in doing 100 things 1% better, drawing upon my experience in business to manage the team as if it were a small business and the…

Driving this ambition was my belief in doing 100 things 1% better, drawing upon my experience in business to manage the team as if it were a small business and the creation of our 'One Team' culture.

Coaching England was simply an amazing 8 years where I was able to work with the most dedicated and talented group of athletes and coaches. Together we played some brilliant rugby and consistently beat the nations who traditionally dominated the sport. We rose up the rankings to number one in the world and in 2003 won the Grand Slam and later the World Cup in Sydney against the Australians.
