How can you use emotional intelligence to identify and address team members' biases?
By listening to others and actually being interested in what they saying you build trust. This is an important part of EI. I would also say it helps people see that you really care. There is a skill called immediacy in career counselling which allows you to reflect back to someone how you may be feeling based on what or someone is responding. It's important to clarify this with a question and respond back by using phrases the client as said. By listening you also allow someone to open up and reveal what may be worrying them too.

What do you do when clients resist your career counseling sessions?
Showing consideration and understanding is key. Some clients know they need support but several factors need more attention in their life at that time. Like financial stability, mental health or general illness. Creating time and space for them to come up and gentle follow up can also remind them that you can support them when they want more sessions.

What do you do when clients resist your career counseling sessions?
Empathy is super important especially if the client discloses something that stopping them currently. For example going through a divorce or death in the family. I have had clients who have been resistance because of circumstances. This is ok because it allows to not only build on rappore and trust but also to allow them to see that your focus will be on supporting them when they are ready.

What do you do when clients resist your career counseling sessions?
One of the main things I observe around this isn’t just fear or resistance. It’s also about making time for them to create space to ask for their own permission to get help with their careers. For example some clients who have trauma know they want and need support. However they feel overwhelmed with what their family or friends are advising them to do. So it’s hard for them to back away from this. When I have a client who is resistant it’s about helping not only understand why but also if they are doing this because they are busy supporting others that they forget to nurture what they really want.
