  • Student Staff Member of the Year Award

    Bristol SU

I was glad to be able to facilitate a student staff member I line managed to gain the 'Student Staff Member of the Year Award'.

This was a fantastic employee, who had a real ability to critique and suggest improvements to our programmes from a student perspective. He also excelled in data processing and analysis.

Recognising his potential, I empowered the member of staff to bring his skills and understanding to the programme, despite only being in a junior role.

I achieved the award for my contributions to sport and physical activity, both as a boxing captains and Leadership Coordinator.

In both roles, I used sport as a locomotive to challenge barriers to participation, and empower students with the skills, confidence and support to challenge those barriers too.

As boxing captain, I was pioneering in running sessions for the Sports Department's Healthy Mind's Scheme, which uses exercise to help students with mental health difficulties, empowered women to participate through encouraging their involvement with committee positions and engagement with our Fight Night, whilst leading a performance atmosphere which saw the most successful year for the club competitively.

I presented this to a panel of local business-people and members of the Careers Service.
