Job Description

We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic experienced paralegal with a passion for music law to join our Legal & Business Affairs Team in Liverpool. You will report directly to the Head of Legal & Business Affairs and work closely with all teams within the business. There will be opportunities to grow within the role, which will provide a fantastic grounding for a career in the music industry.

The ideal candidate will have a background in intellectual property, specifically focusing on music rights, licensing, and contract management. This role involves providing comprehensive administrative and legal support, including research, basic drafting, and managing various legal documents, to ensure compliance and protection of our music catalogue.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience as paralegal.
  • Music publishing experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of music publishing industry (and music industry as a whole) through education and/or previous work experience is desirable.

Precise attention to detail is imperative.

  • Friendly, articulate and respectful communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with artists, industry professionals, and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to assess risks and provide strategic recommendations for business decisions.
  • Highly organised and detail orientated with the ability to own and manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines effectively with limited supervision.
  • Proficient with technology and Client Relationship and Contract Management systems (e.g. Hubspot/ Sales Force) exhibiting a natural comfort and familiarity in a tech-driven environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic and technology led environment, embracing new challenges and displaying flexibility in responding to evolving industry trends and business needs.
  • Possesses a solid understanding of legal and contractual frameworks in the music industry, including copyright, licensing, and intellectual property matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft, review, and negotiate basic agreements, with strong attention to detail.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to understand the processes of the business and continue knowledge building to support business goals.
  • Experience maintaining and updating contract templates to reflect current industry standards and legal requirements.
  • Team player with professional work ethic.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable leading on projects and tasks autonomously.
  • Positive approach to problem solving.
  • Passionate about music and the music industry.
  • Ability to maintain a professional manner inside and outside of the business.
  • Enthusiasm for working with writers and business partners at all levels
