Late summer in England is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the countryside. For a group of WTW colleagues, that meant a weekend trip to Wykham Park Farm in Oxfordshire – a family farm where great-tasting food is produced in an environmentally responsible way – and learn about sustainable farming. Owner John Colegrave takes great pride in being a ‘steward of the countryside’ and his family has farmed here for five generations. The farm is mixed with a herd of longhorn cattle and sheep. They grow vegetables and arable crops with minimal pesticides and are committed to environmental stewardship. The tour of the farm included the meadows and fields, meeting the cattle, and a delicious lunch at the farm restaurant. We also saw the amazing selection of fresh produce, including tomatoes, cucumbers, and gladiolas in the farm store. Our visit was an inspiring reminder of the power of sustainable agriculture and the positive impact that responsible farming practices can have on the environment and local communities. Thanks to our colleagues James Colegrave, Kate Stein and Kate Tuetken for coordinating! The 2024 hurricane season was predicted to be highly active and sure enough it began dramatically with #HurricaneBeryl, which broke numerous records. As James Done of NSF NCAR - The National Center for Atmospheric Research writes, https://ow.ly/p3ck50SRfBk, not only do the big signals for this year’s North Atlantic #hurricane season lie in the oceans but also and alarmingly, the pattern of heat across the North Atlantic Ocean closely resembles the pattern that has historically produced the most active seasons. Meanwhile, over in the equatorial Eastern Pacific Ocean, a rapid cooling is under way signaling the imminent arrival of La Niña so if the Atlantic and Pacific oceans work together in the same direction, will that create a hyperactive hurricane season?
