“WrestleMania 28″ set a new record for WWE, generating 1.3 million pay-per-view buys for the event, held April 1 at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium.
Company earned $67 million from the event, its largest PPV offering each year. Figure combines PPV and live-event revenue from ticket sales and merchandise. Event also set a new attendance record for the stadium, with 78,363 filled seats.
Last year’s show, hosted in Atlanta, generated revenue of $35.9 million for the company on more than 1 million PPV buys — a mark WWE had been eager to reach after years of declines. The 2010 event, from Phoenix, counted 885,000 buys.
The uptick in buys this year is being attributed to the main match-up between Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson and John Cena, which WWE promoted for a year.
“WrestleMania 28” was available as a PPV event in more than 105 countries.

“WrestleMania 29” is skedded to take place April 7, 2013, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
