Sony PlayStation 3 to Live-Stream Events, Starting with WWE SummerSlam on Aug. 18

Sony game console's Live Events Viewer app to feature mix of free, pay-per-view events

Sony is bringing live video events to PlayStation 3 users through a special-purpose app starting with a live stream of WWE‘s SummerSlam pay-per-view event on Sunday, Aug. 18.

The game console’s Live Events Viewer app, to be available for download starting Tuesday from Sony’s PlayStation Store, will will provide live sports, concerts and other entertainment events. Some of the live events will be offered on a pay-per-view basis and other events will be free, according to Sony.

First event in PlayStation 3‘s live streaming queue is WWE SummerSlam, pitting John Cena versus Daniel Bryan in the championship matchup on Sunday, Aug. 18, from L.A.’s Staples Center. The preshow starts at 4 p.m. Pacific (7 p.m. Eastern).

SummerSlam’s suggested retail price is $44.95. PPV event is available via Microsoft’s Xbox 360, other connected TV platforms and pay-TV providers.
