Donald Trump has returned to posting on X/Twitter ahead of his interview with site owner Elon Musk, taking place Monday, Aug. 12, at 5 p.m. PT.

Trump came back to the social media platform with three campaign videos emphasizing his vision for the country and bashing his opponent, whom he is calling “San Francisco Radical Kamala Harris.” His return to X comes amid Harris’ rise in various election polls.

The last time Trump posted on the social media site was Aug. 24, 2023, when the former president touted his mug shot with the caption, “Election interference. Never surrender!” Prior to that post, Trump hadn’t tweeted since Jan. 8, 2021, just two days after the insurrection on the Capitol.

Following the Jan. 6 attack, Trump was permanently suspended by Twitter, as the company cited a “risk of further incitement of violence.” About a year later, Trump started his own social media site, Truth Social, where he had been posting before his return to X.

In November 2022, Musk reinstated Trump’s X account after releasing a poll to determine whether Trump would be unbanned. Fifteen million people voted, and 51.8% were in favor or letting the former president return to the social media site.

Still, Trump stayed off X until August 2024, with just three months remaining until the presidential election. Trump has said he would like to debate Harris three times in September, but only one has been confirmed, which will take place on ABC on Sept. 10.

The 2024 presidential election will take place Nov. 5.
