Before Kevin Costner‘s highly anticipated “Horizon” hits theaters this weekend, the actor and director has released a photo book that delves even deeper into the themes of the Western epic — and it’s already a No. 1 bestseller on Amazon.

In “The Great Horizon,” photographer Cale Glendening captures a deeper look into each of the characters in Costner’s upcoming film, channeling classic Western photography with gorgeous imagery in both black-and-white and color. To create the contents of the book, Glendening shot each member of the cast between takes on set, creating portraits that give an intimate glimpse into what it takes to inhabit such a harsh western landscape.

The blood-soaked film, a two-part look at the expansion of the American West, is told from the perspective of the cattle ranchers, farmers and soldiers building a future for themselves in the region, as well as the Natives who lived there first. It’s a deeply personal project for Costner, who put much of his own fortune into making the $100 million-plus film, including mortgaging his ranch. He directs and stars in the film, which he also produced and co-wrote.

Costner showed the first part of “Horizon” at Cannes last month and it will open in U.S theaters on Friday, June 28. The second chapter debuts in theaters on Aug. 16.

In the meantime, check out Costner’s hardcover “The Great Horizon” on Amazon for $57.79. Find yourself inspired by the Western themes present in Costner’s work? Check out our roundup of “Yellowstone”-inspired Western-core clothing here.
