"Stranger Things" is an original series on Netflix that combines numerous genres, from science-fiction to horror, action and drama. Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, the series is set in the fictional small town of Hawkins, Indiana and centers on a group of children who discover a supernatural young girl and befriend her. Their friendship leads to a bigger discovery: Hawkins sits on top of an alternate supernatural dimension known as the Upside Down. The series focuses on the escalating war between the real world and the Upside Down.

The Duffer Brothers used 1980s pop culture as inspiration for "Stranger Things," including the works of Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter.

"Stranger Things" has received over a dozen primetime Emmy nominations, including four nominations for best drama series. The cast won the 2017 Screen Actors Guild award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series. "Stranger Things" is also a ratings blockbuster for Netflix and is one of the streamer's flagship original series. "Stranger Things 4" earned 1.35 bullion hours viewed during its first 28 days on Netflix, making it for a time the most-watched Netflix English-language series of all time. It was later surpassed by "Wednesday." The main series will end after its fifth season, but Netflix is developing spinoffs so that the franchise will continue.
