NEW BRITAIN, CT — New Britain scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the opener 4-2 and built a three-run lead in game two with a three-run third inning and held on for a 5-4 victory in the nightcap for a Futures League doubleheader sweep of the Vermont Lake Monsters Tuesday night at New Britain Stadium.

Vermont had tied game one 2-2 in the top of the sixth on a Eric Jeon (Columbia) RBI single, but the Bees took the lead in the bottom of the inning on back-to-back two-out RBI singles, a walk and two-run single.

The Lake Monsters then tied game two 2-2 on a Jack Rickheim (Harvard) RBI single in the top of the second, but then five of the first six Bee batters got base hits in the bottom of the third inning for their 5-2 advantage.

Vermont got within one with two runs in the fourth on a leadoff single followed by three straight one-out walks to force home a run and a sacrifice fly from Chone James (Virginia), but Mark Quatrani (Cornell) with the bases loaded to end the inning with the Lake Monsters trailing 5-4.

An error and single to open the seventh inning put runners on first and second with no outs, but a strikeout and forceout led to pinch hitter Jeon lining out to right field to end the game with the tying run on third base.
