THE STORY BEHIND ZALO'S LARGE LANGUAGE MODEL In late 2023, Zalo successfully released a large language model (LLM) with 7 billion parameters after merely 6 months of training. Notably, it outperformed GPT-3.5 in the Kahoot competition organized by the technological forum Tinhte.vn. At that time, Zalo's LLM also exceeded OpenAI's GPT-3.5 in capacity by 150%, as assessed by the VMLU (Vietnamese Multitask Language Understanding Benchmark Suite) capacity assessment standard. This benchmark includes over 10,000 questions varying in 50 subjects and fields such as STEM, social sciences, and humanities. Reflecting on this significant achievement, Mr. Nguyen Ba Dat, Senior Product Manager, Zalo AI at Zalo, expressed that this marks the beginning of a long journey in AI development for the Vietnamese community. He added that the development team is expected to exert more efforts in creating AI applications that deliver substantial benefits to consumers.
