(Washington D.C.) – Republicans in the House of Representatives are opening an investigation into Kamala Harris’ pick for vice president, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Walz has come under fire for his frequent trips to China, and his efforts coordinating student trips to the country as well.

Walz was a former teacher in China for a year after graduating college. Then, as a high school teacher here in the United States, he organized a yearly trip with students to China. He claims to have visited the foreign communist country 30 times.

The investigation was launched after House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray. Comer demanded any communications that Walz had with “any Chinese entity or individual”. A spokesperson for Walz said he has stood up to the Chinese government and puts America first.
