Dreams, the unique game creation system title developed by Media Molecule, was very close to hitting PlayStation 5 and PC but was canceled at the last minute when the ports were basically finished.

Speaking during a recent livestream, Lance McDonald, a well-known hacker and dataminer, revealed that the enhanced port, which featured ray tracing support as well as mouse and keyboard controls on PlayStation 5, had been in the works for a while, but was ultimately canceled following layoffs at the development studio. The hacker got his information from someone he knew who was testing it, who said the port was essentially done by the time it got canceled.

Dreams not releasing on PC has got to be one of the biggest missed opportunities of Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game creation system featured by the title is extremely well done, and it would have worked great on PC with modding support. Now, it seems like the game will be forever stuck on PlayStation 4, never realizing its true potential.

Dreams is now available on PlayStation 4. You can learn more about it by checking out Kai's launch review, where he highlighted how much potential the game carried.

Dreams is only in its infancy at the moment and I fully expect to see the full potential of the platform take months to achieve. However, even days after its official release, there are already a great number of Dreams that give me hope for the platform. Even multiplayer and PlayStation VR support are both in development and should arrive sooner rather than later. This is one creative platform that I hope persists for a long time and even makes its way onto next-generation consoles. If you've had a great idea for a game, stop dreaming how to do it and do it instead (in Dreams).
