Six Stars- Finally: HOT coffee … oops, 4 stars

16 months later I still use the ember mug every day and like it. But something is loose in the charger base. I have to turn it upside down and place the inverted mug underneath it. I guess a wire is loose or something of that sort so electricity only flows with the whole set-up inverted. So I can’t place the mug on the charger to keep my brew hot for a long time. Since I finish off any given dose of Java fairly fast, this is not a problem. I can do at least 2 cups before I have to recharge. I hope the charger doesn’t die completely.

Crazy expensive, but Ember uses induction heating to break the 125° barrier. The “hot” plate never gets hot. All the heat goes into the coffee. It holds a healthy 9 oz.

Hand wash. Do NOT microwave.

I never seriously thought I’d own a Bluetooth coffee mug and be happy I did.
The usual run of nearly identical coffee warmers are just miniature hot plates that, for safety reasons, do not dare go over a certain temperature; around 185°. That temperature, transferred to your mug or cup, just can’t keep your coffee more than about 125° tops in a room with normal temperature. That just doesn’t do it for me. I don’t want warm coffee, I want a HOT coffee.

In the past – and by the past I mean about a week ago- I would get up literally every three minutes and warm up my cooling coffee in the microwave for 15 seconds. That worked, but it was tedious.

With the Ember mug, You download the app, easily pair your mug to the app after pressing the bottom button and set your desired maintenance temperature. In my case that temperature is 145. I would go to 155 if it would let me but 145 is the max and will do. If you’ve poured a cup that is hotter than 145 the temperature will gradually lower, accurately displayed on your phone or tablet screen if you care to look, and when your target temperature is reached you get a little notification and the temperature stays there very reliably. This is so great. No more getting up from the table and doing The microwave thing.
You don’t even have to keep it plugged in once it is charged. The ember mug is good for at least a couple of cups of coffee before the battery inside the mug runs out. If you keep it on the little induction plate then there is no limit to the number of times you can refill. You don’t have to drag around a little induction plate with its cord and transformer if you need to switch rooms.

Due to its induction style heating, the bottom of the mug does not get hot. The mug knows when liquid has been poured into it and turns on by itself. A neat thing: if you have half an inch of liquid in the mug it somehow knows that the liquid still needs heat. But as soon as the mug is empty, the mug knows the score and turns off.

As long as this thing keeps working reliably, as I pray that it will, I will regret the high price less and less as the months go by.

So buy buy buy Ember Mug!

My old Ember was just not working....was very difficult to charge as one of the little prongs on the charging base was pressed in and would not pop back up. Kept watching both Amazon and Ember sites and finally saw a great sale on Amazon...thank you....so ordered right away. Received quickly and all is good...enjoying hot coffee again. Do have to say though that the Ember brand is very delicate and malfunctions easily. My old Ember needed to have charging base replaced - same prong problem and the mug needed replacing. Both were done by Ember without too much hassle....they were helpful. I treat my Ember very very gently following all the guidelines. Hoping that this one will last a few years without any problems. Do like and enjoy this product.

I was previously using another coffee warmer that plugs in via a wall plug. Minuses of course are that you can't take the cup off the warmer. It also only maintains a single set heat setting. So, as the amount of coffee in your cup drops to a small amount, the temperature of the coffee becomes overly hot. That problem is also addressed by this warmer, which heats or cools the liquid in the cup to a consistent temperature.

Another nice thing about this mug is the phone app that you can use to set the coffee temperature to a temperature that's different from the default, and monitor the battery level on the charger.

I was introduced to this mug by my neighbor from Cali and said why not. Purchased 2 mugs a little over a year ago: 1 for me and 1 for my wife. Mug itself seems to be made from quality material. The charger is made of subpar material in my opinion. Highest temp setting is perfect for me but battery doesn’t last long. Speaking of battery: poor battery charge life, expected more for this price. Battery life with the highest temperature setting lasts about 10-15 minutes then you have to place on charger hence my title about being tied to the charger. To overcome this situation, we keep a charger on the end table for both my wife and I to use and I keep the other charger on my home office desk, problem solved but I shouldn’t have to solve this problem because of the product’s high cost. Charger plug and wiring is old, outdated. plug is oversized and no way of hiding. Plug or wire breaks you are screwed since it’s not USB. Syncing with the app was not hard but still more challenging than expected and not as easy to navigate for a simple product. Overall 3.5 stars. Probably wouldn’t purchase again and just stick with an Artic, Yeti or something similar given the cost and benefit analysis. Hopefully Ember updates the battery and charger while lowering the overall cost of the mug. Hope this was helpful.

The first unit would not heat up above 120 although the internal indicator showed 145. Finally found out the problem. The lady of the house drinks a variety of teas, many of which have solid matter such as apple squares in them. These sit on the bottom and interfere with the heating process. The upper liquid is much cooler than the lower level. She has given up on the cup and now I use it for conventional coffee and tea. It works so well. It is so pleasant to find the coffee, at the best possible temperature, an hour after filling the cup. The cup is expensive, but such a delight to use.

Good:
- Does what it says on the tin: Keeps my tea nice and hot for around 80 minutes normally, or indefinitely on the coaster.
- It's easy to clean, and the material feels good to drink from. It's plastic but it's a high-quality good feeling plastic.

Bad:
- The app is dreadful - but you should only need to use it once to set your temp and then you're fine.
- If you like your tea VERY hot, it may not be enough. I've set my temp to 61c and it only goes up to 64c, so it's a little close for comfort (I think a fresh cup start around 85c for reference)
- It's annoying to remember to charge it back up again after any use away from your coaster.
