WASHINGTON (7News) — One person is dead and six others are hurt after a Monday night shooting in Northeast D.C., authorities said.
D.C. police responded to the 1500 block of F Street NE around 8:37 p.m. after reports of multiple people being shot. They found six men with apparent gunshot wounds.

Police Chief Robert Contee said six men were shot and one was killed. The shooting happened outside of the Azeeze-Bates apartments off 15th St. NE, 7News' Tom Roussey reports.
On Tuesday, police identified the man who died as 24-year-old Lance Melvin of Southeast D.C.
The other five men were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

With a surge in shootings in recent days and weeks, 7News' Tom Roussey asked Contee if there was something bigger going on in the city or have these been individual shootings.
Contee said there is nothing known that links the cases together.
"The common denominator is illegal firearms in the hands of people who shouldn't have them," Contee said.

Officers from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are also helping in the investigation.
