7News went to one in the parking lot of THEARC on Mississippi Avenue in Southeast Washington.

There were dozens of booths set up by various groups including the Mystics and Wizards, the Wards 7 & 8 Prevention Center, various police departments, and many other groups.

Some groups that came out focus on giving young people positive things to do. Among them, the mayor’s summer youth employment program – which began under Mayor Marion Barry more than 40 years ago – and The Washington Arts Rhythm and Drums Project, which seeks to help kids discover a passion for music.
