A man has been arrested after heavily-armed police stormed a home in Melbourne's east hours into a dramatic stand-off.
A large-scale police presence, including specialist officers, negotiators and the dog squad, were outside a home on Anne Road in Knoxfield from 7am today.
Police used a megaphone to ask the man inside the home, who they believed was armed, to pick up his phone to talk to officers.
By early afternoon, the decision was made to storm the home.
Pops and explosions were heard as tear gas was deployed to allow heavily-armed tactical officers in camouflage clothing to enter the property.
The 52-year-old man from Heidelberg West was arrested.
9News understands the man taken to Box Hill Hospital after sustaining a dog bite during the arrest.

It is believed the man may be suffering mental health-related issues.
Police alleged the man was involved in an incident yesterday involving a firearm after officers saw an allegedly stolen black Honda on Station Street about 3.30pm.
When the Honda came to a stop at a red light at the intersection of Eley Road, a police car pulled up alongside the Honda and an officer stepped out.
Police will allege that the male driver of the Honda picked up a gun and pointed it at the officer.
Nobody was physically injured, and police allege he then fled the scene.
Police said they will interview the 52-year-old at a later stage.
No charges have yet been laid.
