2024 Scottish Open Picks

Spencer Aguiar: Alexander Björk 600-1 (FanDuel)

I'm worried that this is Xander Schauffele's event to lose after ranking inside the top two of my model for all 10 areas of my sheet, but let's go for the fun long-shot pick in this article and discuss Alexander Björk at 600-1 to capture the 2024 Scottish Open.

Björk has been extremely solid at the venue in the past, finishing inside the top 42 all four times over the past four seasons. From a statistical perspective, many of those results should be credited to his ideal fit for The Renaissance Club.

Björk graded in the top 10 of my model when combining Expected Off The Tee + Approach + Putting along with Long Irons + Scrambling. His high-end mark with the putter made him much more of a 100-1 sort of golfer than this 600-1 price at FanDuel.

Obviously, there are other markets to consider for Björk, such as a placement bet for him at +240 to land in the top 40, but this is one of those spots where I am going to take a chance on the unknown of the week and do so with a golfer whom my model loved way above any expectation I could have ever imagined.

It doesn't mean this pick is safe. There is a reason Björk is 600-1, but I will take those chances on the most mispriced player in my sheet this week.

Greg Waddell: Ludvig Åberg 17-1 (bet365)

Åberg got his first taste of The Renaissance Club last year when he missed the cut on the number but led the field in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee in the first two rounds.

The budding Swedish superstar grades out positively in nearly every statistical category on the PGA Tour, ranking third in Total Driving, ninth in Strokes Gained: Approach the Green, seventh in Proximity and 14th in Scrambling. He's a complete golfer.

Most importantly, Åberg is consistent. He has not gone three consecutive events this season without finishing in the top 10. His last two finishes were a tie for 12th at the U.S. Open and a tie for 27th at the Travelers Championship. Expect some fireworks from Åberg this week in Scotland.

Matt Gannon: Sahith Theegala 50-1 (FanDuel)

On paper, Sahith Theegala makes a ton of sense on a links course. While he has a tendency to spray the ball from time to time off the tee, he has plenty of distance along with an excellent and creative short game. On the other hand, he is a very young and modern style pro golfer.

What do you get when you combine his modern length and impressive short game — the perfect recipe for success at The Renaissance Club!

Theegala will tap into his skill set while taking advantage of what the golf course gives him this week in Scotland. He missed the cut here in his only prior trip, but that does not worry me a bit. He is an all-or-nothing golfer who can spike in any form or with any course history.

Buying Theegala at a peak in pricing isn't the way to go; this is a great chance to bet him as his outright odds have drifted and he is not the talk of the week. This is a great spot for Theegala to break through and pick up that first really big win.

Tony Sartori: Tommy Fleetwood 22-1 (bet365)

Some say Tommy Fleetwood is “cursed” on American soil because he hasn't secured an elusive PGA Tour victory, but that has not been the case in Europe. Fleetwood is a seven-time winner on the DP World Tour and remains one of the best golfers in the world.

He enters this week in great form with 10 straight weekend appearances, including a tie for third at the Masters. Only Scottie Scheffler and Ludvig Åberg beat him that week, and Scheffler won’t be teeing it up at The Renaissance Club this week at the Scottish Open.

Fleetwood should be confident as he returns to The Renaissance Club after finished sixth here last year and fourth in 2022, so the course fit is not an issue. It would be fitting for Fleetwood’s first PGA Tour victory to occur in Europe, which is what I think will come to fruition this week.
