Former Florida QB Sues Coach Billy Napier After Alleged Botched NIL Deal

Former Florida recruit and current Georgia QB Jaden Rashada has sued UF coach Billy Napier, a prominent Florida booster and others after an alleged NIL deal gone wrong.

Rashada alleges in his lawsuit that he did not receive $13.85 million in total payments he alleges were promised to him for choosing Florida over other universities.

The QB had committed to Florida after being promised the $13.85 million, but he alleges the boosters reneged on their deal. Because of this, he says he didn't sign his letter of intent before Napier promised a $1 million payment and to make the $13.85 million whole. Rashada says in his lawsuit that he never received the $1 million or any more money from the university's boosters.

The QB alleges he turned down $9.5 million from the University of Miami in booster deals in order to join Florida's program, which is part of the sum that Rashada is requesting from this lawsuit.

Rashada eventually joined Arizona State, where he sat behind eventual Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels during his freshman season. He transferred to Georgia for this upcoming season.

"Sadly, unethical and illegal tactics like this are more and more commonplace in the Wild West that is today's college football landscape," the lawsuit said. "As the first scholar-athlete to take a stand against such egregious behavior by adults who should know better, Jaden seeks to hold Defendants accountable for their actions and to expose the unchecked abuse of power that they shamelessly wielded."

Florida athletics spokesman Steve McClain told ESPN that they will not comment on the ongoing litigation.

It's the first known case in which a player has sued due to alleged NIL mispractices.
