Las Vegas to Host 2027 CFP National Championship; New Orleans, Dallas & Miami Negotiating Future Games

Las Vegas will host the 2027 College Football Playoff title game, while New Orleans, Dallas and Miami are negotiating to host the title games from 2028-30, sources told Action Network.
“Supposedly, nothing is ever a ‘lock,’ but Las Vegas is a ‘lock' to host the 2027 game,” a source said. “It is a done deal. The College Football Playoff has been wanting to get to Vegas for years. We’ll finally get our wish.”
Even though it hasn’t been determined whether the new playoff format — which begins with the 2026 regular season — will consist of 12 or 14 teams, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Dallas and Miami were selected by the CFP several months ago as its preferred host cities between 2027-30, sources said.
While Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium is locked up to host the January 2027 title game, New Orleans (January 2028), Dallas (January 2029) and Miami (January 2030) are still in negotiations with the CFP, sources said.
If any of those cities can’t reach an agreement, the CFP has selected three cities — Houston, Phoenix and Tampa — as back-up sites, sources said.
The College Football Playoff is expected to officially announce the 2027-30 championship sites in September, sources said.
Las Vegas will become the 11th different city to host a CFP title game, and hosting the game marks the latest championship for Las Vegas. Last season, Allegiant Stadium hosted Super Bowl LVIII, and it will host the 2028 Men’s Final Four.
Three years ago, the CFP originally sought Las Vegas to host the 2025 CFP title game on Jan. 5. However, Las Vegas and the CFP couldn’t resolve a conflict with the annual Consumer Electronics Show, which is also held in early January. The CES, which brings nearly 200,000 visitors to Las Vegas, requires thousands of hotel rooms and convention room space.
Atlanta was chosen as a late replacement. Because the CFP expanded the playoff from four teams to 12 teams this season, this year’s title game in Atlanta was moved back two weeks to Jan. 20, 2025.
Miami will host the Jan. 19, 2026 championship game, which marks the final year of the original 12-year College Football Playoff contract.
Since the College Football Playoff began in 2014, Miami will become the first city to host the title game three times (2021, 2026 and 2030). The only other cities to host multiple CFP championships will be Dallas (2014 and 2029), Atlanta (2018 and 2025) and New Orleans (2020 and 2028).
