The Jacksonville Jaguars weren’t shy over the offseason about their intent to lock up franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence for the long haul.

They sure weren’t kidding.

The Jaguars reportedly agreed to a five-year, $275 million contract extension with Lawrence that averages $55 million a year. That ties him with Cincinnati Bengals’ QB Joe Burrow for most in the NFL. He’s now the ninth quarterback with at least $100 million or more fully guaranteed according to ESPN, joining Burrow, Josh Allen, Jared Goff, Justin Herbert, Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray and Deshaun Watson.

Lawrence already ranks among Jacksonville’s franchise leaders despite playing just three seasons, ranking fourth in passing yards (11,770) and touchdowns (58). He led the Jaguars to the AFC South title in 2022 and authored a memorable comeback in the Wild Card Round against the Los Angeles Chargers, rallying the team from a 27-0 hole to a 31-30 win at the buzzer.

The Jaguars got off to a hot start last season before suffering an epic collapse that saw them watching the playoffs from their couch. They started off 8-3, and were -800 to win the division heading into Week 13. Eventually, they fell 34-31 in an overtime heartbreaker, which started a downward spiral. Jacksonville lost five of its final six games, opening the door for the Houston Texans to win the AFC South.

Big things are expected of Lawrence as the team looks to wash the taste of last season’s collapse from their mouth. However, oddsmakers aren’t nearly as bullish entering 2024 as they were heading into 2023.

The Jaguars are +122 to make the playoffs at FanDuel with a win total set at 8.5. They’re +270 to win the AFC South, which is second behind the Texans (+105), They’re also +2300 to win the AFC and+4500 to win the Super Bowl.
