Are the San Fransisco 49ers broken?

That’ll be a hot topic on sports radio and TV shows alike this week after they lost for the second straight week as heavy favorites. As a result, San Francisco is no longer favored to win the Super Bowl after five weeks in the top spot.

The Chiefs, who opened the season as favorites, are once again the frontrunner with +450 odds at BetMGM. They were +475 co-favorites to take home the Lombardi Trophy before the 49ers fell Monday night to the Vikings. Meanwhile, San Francisco is now +500 at MGM after entering the game as low as +430 across the market.

The 49ers' offense has come undone in recent weeks. They scored more than 30 points in their first five games but have failed to hit 20 in their last two. Brock Purdy’s struggles have played a large role as he’s faced adversity for the first time in his young career.  He’s thrown three picks in his last two games after not being intercepted in nine straight games including the playoffs dating back to last season.

Purdy entered the MVP discussion before San Francisco’s back-to-back losses. He began the season at +2500, but moved all the way to +700 after throwing four touchdowns in Week 5’s 42-10 win over the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. He had the fifth-best odds to win MVP heading into Week 6, but his stock has plummeted to +1400 in the aftermath of the 49ers’ 22-17 loss to the Vikings.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs haven’t lost a game since dropping their season opener to the Lions. Their six wins are tied for the most in the league with the Eagles, who boast the third-best odds to win the Super Bowl (+600).
