Is it fait accompli that Sergei Bobrovsky will take home the Conn Smythe Trophy?

Barring a historic Edmonton Oilers comeback from a 3-0 series hole, oddsmakers certainly believe so.  The netminder had the third-best odds to win it heading into the series at +400 and -155 to win it heading into Game 2. Now, after the Florida Panthers' 4-3 win in Game 3, he's an overwhelming -470.

Bobrovsky winning the Conn Smythe would terrible news for sportsbooks, who will take a sizeable hit if it comes to fruition. He opened at +2500 entering the playoffs according to BetMGM and presents the biggest liability. He has the highest ticket percentage (17.9) and handle percentage (23.3%) of any player in the Stanley Cup Final.

Connor McDavid is on his heels with 17.8 and 22.7, respectively. Only five players have ever won the Conn Smythe on a losing team, with the most recent Anaheim goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere in 2003, so it’s unlikely he’ll win the award barring an even more unlikely Edmonton comeback.

Teams up 3-0 in an NHL playoff series are 206-4 all time, and 27-1 in the Stanley Cup Final. The only team to rally to win the Cup was the 1940 Toronto Maple Leafs. History clearly isn’t on the Oilers’ side as they aim to win their first Stanley Cup since 1980.

Pulling off the unlikely comeback means Edmonton getting the better of Bobrovsky in four straight games. Unfortunately for them, there’s no sign of the goalie’s brilliant run coming to an end, which is why he's such a massive favorite to win the coveted award.
