2024 French Open Picks, Odds | Expert Predictions for Vondrousova vs Danilovic, Swiatek vs Potapova

I’ve found value on two of Sunday's matchups: Vondrousova vs Danilovic and Swiatek vs Potapova.

French Open Open Odds, Picks

Markéta Vondroušová (-275) vs Olga Danilović (+210)

5 a.m. ET

Markéta Vondroušová destroyed Chloe Paquet 6-1, 6-3 in the third round. Vondroušová won 60% of her service points and was broken twice. The world No. 6 also won 59% of her return points, breaking on six occasions.

Vondroušová has a 9-4 clay record in 2024, with an impressive 103-36 mark on the surface as a professional. Vondroušová has a solid, lefty game. She spreads the court well, hitting into small targets. The Czech anticipates well, defending and counterpunching at a high level. In addition, the 24-year-old has great variety, including pinpoint drop shots and excellent angles. Vondroušová does lose her focus at times, leading to poor errors and erratic shot selection. In addition, she doesn't have overwhelming power.

Olga Danilović took down Donna Vekić 0-6, 7-5, 7-6(8) to reach the Round of 16. The world No. 125 won 53% of her service points, getting broken six times. She won 42% of her return points, breaking on four occasions.

Danilović has a stunning 16-6 mark this year on clay, with a 128-54 career-record on the dirt. She plays a powerful lefty game, serving big and playing aggressive baseline tennis. She's most potent with her forehand. Danilović is not afraid to move forward, winning 18-of-25 net points against Vekić. And while opponents can rush the Serb's forehand, it's tougher on clay. Although Danilović can become erratic, she doesn't give her opponents much rhythm and she can hit through nearly anyone.

Throughout this clay season, while Vondroušová has won frequently, she's shown high variability in her level. For instance, she came back from 6-0 down to beat Katie Volynets in the second round. Beating an overmatched Chloé Paquet doesn't change that.

Danilović is gaining confidence and form as this tournament continues. She has the type of all-out aggressive tennis to not allow Vondroušová to gain a baseline rhythm.

Danilović should be in charge of the rallies, pushing the Czech around and forcing her to defend, as opposed to allowing Vondroušová to spread the court and utilize her variety.

In United Cup (hard court) this season, Danilović blasted through Vondroušová for a set, and I expect the same on a more comfortable surface for the Serb.

Iga Świątek (-4000) vs Anastasia Potapova (+1400)

Iga Świątek defeated Marie Bouzková 6-4, 6-2 to reach the Round of 16 in Paris. Świątek won 71% of her service points, getting broken just once. In addition, the world No. 1 won 48% of her return points,  breaking four times.

Świątek has a ridiculous 17-1 record on the dirt in 2024, with a 128-17 mark on clay as a professional. The Pole hits her spots on serve, moves extremely well (on clay, especially) and can turn defense into offense quickly. She dictates play with her powerful, heavy forehand, although she plays effective offense with her backhand too. Świątek has good variety and excellent point construction. However, powerful opponents, while tough on clay, can rush her from the ground.

Anastasia Potapova squeaked by Xinyu Wang 7-5, 6-7(8), 6-4 in the third round. Potapova won 59% of her service points, but was broken on five occasions. The world No. 41 also won 48% of her return points, breaking seven times.

Potapova is 6-4 this season on clay, with a strong 70-38 career record on the surface. The Russian hits a fairly powerful serve and tries to play offense from the ground, especially with her forehand. She dictates play from this wing, hitting with power, but also showcasing some precise variety. In addition, the 23-year-old moves well, allowing her to recover when put on the defensive. However, Potapova's rally tolerance is suspect and she sometimes bails out of rallies early.

Świątek, relatively speaking, hasn't looked quite as sharp as she typically does. She's not hitting her spots quite as often and isn't returning at the level we're accustomed to.

Potapova has the power, at times, to take Świątek out of her comfort zone, rushing her and taking control of points. This was often the case against Wang, as she hit 45 winners and won 17-of-21 net points.

Not to mention that the Russian has the experience of beating Świątek here in the 2016 Juniors event. While a lot has changed since then, that should give Potapova confidence.
