Ostapenko vs Krejcikova Odds

Jelena Ostapenko continues to steamroll the competition at Wimbledon, beating Yulia Putintseva 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals at the All England Club.

Ostapenko will now take on Barbora Krejcikova, who defeated Danielle Collins 7-5, 6-3, although it is worth noting that Collins pulled up injured in the second set.

Ostapenko Is Blitzing the Competition

Ostapenko was the better player from start to finish against Putintseva. The Latvian won 57% of her service points, getting broken just twice. She also won 55% of her return points, including 65% on Putintseva's second serve, breaking five times.

Ostapenko hit 29 winners against 26 unforced errors in the match. In every match this tournament, she has had a positive winner/unforced error ratio.

In fact, the 27-year old has dropped just 15 games in four singles matches so far at the All England Club.

With the win over Putintseva, the Latvian is now 5-2 on grass this year and 53-23 for her career on the surface. While Ostapenko is a Roland Garros champion, she is extremely competent on grass courts.

And part of the reason for that is Ostapenko's ground game. While she doesn't have a big serve, Ostapenko takes the racquet out of her opponents' hands with her relentless firepower from the baseline. She's a bit more solid with her backhand, but Ostapenko has easy power from both wings and when she's in the type of groove she's in currently, there's little her opposition can do.

Ostapenko can hit winners from anywhere on the court and while rally tolerance has been an issue in the past, as her positive winner/unforced error ratio shows, Ostapenko is controlling her groundstrokes quite well at the moment.

Krejcikova Continues Her Run

In her win over Collins, Krejcikova showcased high-level tennis. The Czech won 70% of her service points and was only broken once. In addition, the 28-year old won 47% of her return points, which includes 70% on Collins' second serve, allowing her to break on four occasions.

Krejcikova hit 20 winners against 19 unforced errors in a fairly clean showing. She did greatly benefit from Collins' 36 unforced errors and her injury, but the Czech put herself in position to be successful.

Krejcikova plays a varied, tricky game. She is known for her variety, whether it be her slices, angles or drop shots. Krejcikova spreads the court well and showcases excellent point construction and shot selection.

The 28-year old knows the right times to move forward and does so effectively. She doesn't have seven doubles Slams, which includes two Wimbledon titles, for no reason.

And this sort of game translates to the grass well. It's no wonder that Krejcikova has a 6-2 record on grass this season and a 17-11 professional mark on the surface.

Though Krejcikova was just 6-9 on the year coming into London, despite winning the singles championship at Roland Garros as opposed to the All England Club, it seems that the grass has been revitalizing for the Czech.

With that said, there are still some holes in her game. Krejcikova's backhand can sometimes let her down and she can lose her discipline at times, becoming over-dependent on her variety.

And the Czech isn't the best mover, neither defending nor counterpunching at a particularly high level, which should be worrisome given her quarterfinal opponent.

Ostapenko vs Krejcikova Pick

Ostapenko has been blitzing her opponents throughout this year's Wimbledon and it's nearly impossible to go against her given her current form.

She is striking the ball so well and should be able to push Krejcikova behind the baseline, where she is less comfortable.

Krejcikova doesn't move nor defend particularly well, which puts her in a grim position against the in-form Latvian. Ostapenko should yank the Czech around the court until she finds a winner or Krejcikova cracks from the ground.

Ostapenko's control over her groundstrokes has been superb in London this year too, so Krejcikova shouldn't be able to be as reliant on unforced errors as she was against Collins.

Finally, it's important to note that Ostapenko has the fourth-highest grass Elo rating on the WTA Tour right now. Ostapenko's overall Elo is 115.1 points higher than Krejcikova's, while her grass Elo is 185.9 points above the Czech's.
