Sparks rookie Cameron Brink is out for the year with a torn ACL, the team announced on Wednesday.

The star rookie out of Stanford had high hopes entering the year but has underperformed on account of eclectic rotations from coach Curt Miller and a dose of foul trouble. It doesn't help that the Sparks are a team in flux — go figure for a team that picked Brink with the No. 2 overall pick earlier this year.

Brink averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game while shooting just 39.8% from the field. Notably, she averaged four fouls per game and often took herself out of contests early, with a main culprit being over-the-back fouls.

Yet, the talent is there. Brink's senior season at Stanford was pure dominance, averaging 17.4 points and 11.9 rebounds per game for one of the best teams in the country. She was also a key figure in a 2021 Stanford team that won the national championship.

Odds on the Sparks' futures didn't change on account of the news. At FanDuel, Los Angeles is still +50000 to win the WNBA Championship and off the board to make the playoffs.

LA's win total of 10.5 implies a roughly 25% win percentage on the season.
