The Role of Attorney General

The Office of the Attorney General provides legal representation to the State of Idaho. The Attorney General and his deputies represent numerous state agencies and offices. Examples include the Department of Labor, Idaho State Police and the Secretary of State. By law, the office does not provide legal representation to individual citizens.

These duties are detailed in Article 4, Sections 1, 17, and 18 of the Idaho Constitution and are further defined in Idaho Code §§ 67-1401 – 1409

 

Attorney General Raúl R. Labrador

Raúl R. Labrador is Idaho’s 33rd Attorney General. He was elected to his first term on November 8th, 2022.

Mr. Labrador holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Washington School of Law. During law school, Labrador interned for the Criminal Division of a United States Attorney’s Office and, after graduation, clerked for the United States Court for the District of Idaho.

General Labrador has spent most of his legal career practicing immigration and criminal law. Mr. Labrador founded and managed a law firm with offices in Boise and Nampa, Idaho.

In 2006, Labrador was elected to the Idaho House of Representatives. He would remain in the Legislature until his election to the United States House of Representatives in 2010. While a U.S. Representative, Mr. Labrador served on the influential Judiciary Committee as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security. Mr. Labrador served in the United States House of Representatives from 2011-2019.

Throughout his career, Attorney General Labrador has been recognized for his leadership in protecting Constitutional liberty, parental and gun rights, and our nation’s borders.

Mr. Labrador is one of the founding members of the House Freedom Caucus. He has an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association and was named a Guardian of Small Business by the nation’s largest small business organization.

Attorney General Labrador lives in Eagle, Idaho with his wife Rebecca. They are the proud parents to five children and have five grandchildren.
