The Houston Texans will become the first NFL team to hold a training-camp practice for the 2024 season on Thursday, and during the next week, the rest of the league’s teams will report to their training-camp sites and get to work.

Each NFL team can have 90 players on its active roster throughout the training camp/preseason period, but that number will drop to 53 at 3 p.m. CDT Aug. 27.

NFL teams are opening training camps with 87 roster spots filled by men who played at Alabama. In 2023, an NFL single-season record 72 former Alabama players appeared in regular-season games.

The Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles have the most former Alabama players on their rosters with seven apiece. The Chicago Bears are the only team without a former Alabama player on its roster.

By position, the former Alabama players in the NFL include 20 defensive backs, 14 defensive linemen, 13 offensive linemen, 12 wide receivers, 11 linebackers, eight running backs, four quarterbacks, three tight ends, one kicker and one punter.

Sixteen of the players are rookies, and 12 entered the NFL from other college programs after transferring from Alabama.

Among the Alabama alumni on current NFL rosters, New York Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley has been playing the longest, having started his career in 2014, although Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper has played in the most NFL regular-season games with 140 among the active Crimson Tide players.
