TL;DR:

WHAT IT IS:

A lipid-packed anti-aging cream

WHAT IT DOES:

Protects, moisturizes, and repairs skin while plumping lines

KEY INGREDIENTS:

Fatty acids (increase lipid production to kick-start cell self-repair); cholesterol and ceramides (plump skin and heal skin barrier).

HOW IT LOOKS/FEELS/SMELLS:

The slippery—not sticky—white cream melts into skin quickly and has a very faint fresh scent.

WHY WE LIKE IT:

There’s only so much water a person can drink. If you’ve been draining your carafe but your skin still looks dry and crepey, the problem might be lipids, not liquids. Lipids are the good fats in your skin that make it look healthy and young; as you age, your skin loses them, causing dullness, dryness, and wrinkles. Other moisturizers restore lipids to your skin, but this one goes even further. Scientists at SkinCeuticals found the exact ratio of lipids present in young skin and replicated it in this cream: 2 percent ceramides, 4 percent cholesterol, and 2 percent fatty acids (hence the name). With this ratio, “the moisturizer mimics normal, young skin as accurately as possible,” says cosmetic chemist Ni’Kita Wilson. In company-sponsored studies, it significantly improved skin clarity, radiance, and laxity after eight weeks. In our at-home studies, it made our skin glow like a teenager on prom night.
