Grumpy, small-town barber + hopelessly romantic runaway bride = great big bust ups, all the tension and lots of steamy encounters!
Escaping her seemingly perfect wedding, Naomi Witt arrives in rough-around-the-edges Knockemout, Virginia, running to the rescue of her estranged twin, Tina.
Too bad for Naomi her evil twin hasn't changed at all. After helping herself to Naomi's car and cash, Tina leaves her with something unexpected: the 11-year-old niece she didn't know she had. Now she's stuck in town with no job, no plan, no home and a whole lot of extra responsibility.
There's a reason local barber Knox doesn't do complications or high-maintenance women, especially not the romantic ones. But since Naomi's life imploded right in front of him, the least he can do is help her out of her jam. And just as soon as she stops getting into trouble, he can leave her alone and get back to his peaceful, solitary life.

Review
Lucy is a master at creating characters so real, lovable, and funny ― Read.Mom.Repeat
It's a long story, you gotta take your time to get involved with all these characters, see the relationships develop and grow, you get ALLLL THE LITTLE MOMENTS that would make you GUSH AND SWOON ― Liber Lady
There's that moment when you finish a really incredible book when you just have to take a second to take a deep breath and absorb all your feelings because it was so tremendously good and you can't voice all the good it made you feel. You feel it in your soul. That's what Things We Never Got Over did for me ― About That Story
It's got every single thing I love in a romance book: a gruff/grumpy bad boy who says he doesn't want love, but his actions dictate otherwise, a hopeless romantic heroine that all readers want to befriend, a small town with charm but one that doesn't skimp on the gossip, and a sweet budding romance that readers root for ― Elles Book Blog
I loved the subtlety and the transformation of the broken hero - and broken heroine - and the growth in intimacy was so very satisfying. These two opposites attract in the best of ways, and their chemistry was both smokin' hot and seriously swoony ― Jeeves Reads Romance
The small-town characters were plentiful and colourful! This well-written story made me laugh, as well as pulled at my heartstrings with its excellent plot. Fabulous read! ― Reading, Willing & Able
This book is addictive reading with its lovely, kind heroine in Naomi and the combative grump with a heart of gold in Knox. With hot times, wit and banter, a wonderful cast of characters, brother duking it out over anything, a talented, blossoming pre-teen and a growing problem, and you have a wonderful read which goes straight onto my reread shelf ― Love Shack Romance
I absolutely loved the humor but even more I loved the depth of emotion as these characters grew and learned from their mistakes ― Kiss the Pages
Lucy Score always gives me the feel-good and adorably witty sincere romance butterflies. Things We Never Got Over has all her sincere magic with a heavy heap of small town charm and an immersive level of suspense ― Romantic Rush Reads
Each side character is precious. Seriously. They deserve their own story, specially Knox's brother and bestie ― The Romantic Bibliotheca
The writing is so entertaining that it'll have you breezing through the pages. I felt all the feels. Laughed out loud (so many times). My kindle sizzled. And my gosh all the characters were just so fun and likeable ― Ruth's Romances Blog
I finished this book with a big fat tear rolling down my face. And I don't care one bit ― Mum That Reads
Wildly romantic, full of drama, heat and heart. The perfect small town romance ― Cressida McLaughlin

Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score has been sitting pretty on our kindles for a while and we finally picked it up and devoured it from the first page to the last. It was a very long book, but it was worth it! Lucy Score covered so many of our favourite things we love in our stories, and it was reminiscent of some of our favourite books by Authors we loved a decade ago. Utter perfection. The way in which Lucy Score wrote Knox and Naomi’s story is superb, it swept us up and carried us along as if we were in it, experiencing the highs, the lows, the heat, and the drama alongside all the wonderful characters. It’s truly a wonderful story of family, friendship, and love.
‘Was there someone out there who would find me to be enough? Not too much or too little, but the person they’d been waiting for their whole life.’
Knockemout has the best residents, we fell in love with all of them (bar Tina of course). Like Naomi muses a few times, what on earth is in the drinking water there, they sure don’t make the blokes like this round our way! Knox, Nash, and Lucien. What a trio!
‘I knew what attraction felt like. Knew what to do with it too. But not with a woman like this. One who didn’t know it was smart to be afraid of me.’
So, this book is about the enigmatic Knox and the incoming fleeing bride Naomi. They don’t meet under the best of circumstances, however, it’s pretty safe to say that the intense attraction is immediate. With a few grumpy slanging matches and tangible heated looks, we just knew this was going to turn into a fiery romance!
Naomi is running from her life into an unknown situation after getting a surprising phone call from her estranged twin sister. It’s a good egg versus bad egg situation, stemming from childhood, but Naomi is a people pleaser, a problem solver, and has the heart of an angel. A bad situation changes everything for Naomi and deservedly for the better. Before that though, she must run through a gamut of obstacles, one being the saucy and stroppy Knox. Knox has his own issues and baggage but underneath that gruff Viking, exterior lies a soft heart with a few cracks in it waiting for the right woman to smooth them over. Knox is blown away by the kind, fierce, intelligent, beauty that is Naomi. The way in which their story unfolded was compelling, what a journey and what a wonderful array of characters that made this so much more than just a slow burn reluctant love story.
“Maybe I like being the hero for once.”
Smalltown romances are one of our favourites, add a grumpy hero whose actions speak louder than his words, intense chemistry with an adorable strong, and funny heroine as well as a bit of suspense and humour and well… we’re in reading heaven. We cannot convey how much we loved this book. It just ticked all the boxes for us. We’ve read Lucy Score before and fallen in love with her words, but this is our favourite by this Author, and we cannot wait for Nash and Lucien’s books now!
“You’ve got a big heart, and sooner or later, once all this drama is over, someone is going to look at you and recognize it. And they’re going to want to take care of you for a change.”
The characters are witty ;) fun, so opposite but small town living with all their lives intertwined slowly but surly your routing for that love story, you know the one which seems an odd match but perfect. And this one is definitely a rollercoaster of a story with a mess going on that is sad, laugh out loud funny and some super spicy scenes that keep you hooked.
I don’t like to put any spoilers in, as me myself hate them when looking at reviews, I’d rather have the enjoyment of reading the book to find out why the reviews say just how good it is. Let me tell you it’s definitely worth the read!
I finished this book so quick, I couldn’t wait to read the next two in this series! I’d highly recommend this book.
This was the first book I’d ever read by Lucy Score and I know she will become one of my favourites now that’s for sure!

Although I’m not overly impressed by the first book I am going to continue to read the series in the hope that it gets better.
If you like predictability, sex scenes and a fairytale ending then this book would suit you.

Sure, The FMC may have her moments of annoyingness and drama - but hey, who doesn't in a romance novel? Naomi, the Good Twin extraordinaire, struggles with putting others' happiness before her own and it's her main flaw. That and her dependence on coffee! Although I didn't love Naomi as a character, understanding her need to be the "good child" and her heart of gold kept me rooting for her.
Now, let's talk about our leading man, Knox - cue the heart eyes! I finally get the whole "book boyfriend" craze now. He's undeniably flawed, dealing with some serious Daddy issues, yet somehow still manages to steal hearts. I am smitten with that man, he's totally swoon-worthy. While many reviews criticize Knox, I found his character compelling. He wasn't the flawless small-town hero; he battled his own demons throughout the entire story. He also wasn't miraculously fixed the moment he met Naomi. His brother Nash briefly stole the spotlight as my book crush for a moment though and I'm excited to read his story in Things We Hide from the Light.
And who could forget the adorable Waylay?
"It's okay. You don't have to pretend. Aunt Naomi 'n me are used to people not wanting us."
My heart shattered into a million pieces during that moment. While Waylay may have seemed a tad wise beyond her years at moments, she added a sprinkle of magic to the story. I was ready to jump into the pages and shield her alongside Naomi and Knox.
This book was like a delicious mix of all the best romance tropes - mistaken identities, enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, fake dating, good girl/bad boy, and the classic grumpy x sunshine, all woven together smoothly. I liked that while Knox may be a millionaire, the story doesn't dive too deep into the typical millionaire romance theme. It's just a detail rather than the main plot device.
I can’t wait to read the rest of the Knockemout series - especially to find out the history between Sloane & Lucian in Things We Left Behind!
Ok, this book took me longer than usual. But I kept waiting until I had no distractions to read it!
I laughed super hard, I loved the town, the secondary characters and I already have a crush on Nash & Lucien.
The girl gang is aspirational and I wanna work in the Honky Tonk, with the best girl mates ever.
Knox is a layered character, with the perfect balance of original and different background but with the sense of reality. Not OTT, making it eye-rolling incredible but in a mix that actually makes sense.
Naomi is also very interesting, yet super funny and with the best BFF in the world. Also, her Sloane addition was cool.
Anyway, jumping straight into the next one!
Knox rudeness was the most annoying aspect of the book, but if you wait enough for it to pass and enter in the universe of this series, things improve drastically.
